Submission Policy

Many of you have noticed that there are details for submitting to Black Metal & Brews in the "About Black Metal & Brews" tab here on this website. However, as my social media presence has grown, many artists have taken to contacting me via twitter and facebook. While I appreciate the efforts taken in these formats, the sheer volume of requests I receive has grown to a point where I need to set a firmer rule on submissions.

If you do not submit your music to me directly at blackmetalandbrews@gmail.com then there is a good chance I will unintentionally ignore your request. Why? Because that email address is where I go to ensure I'm not forgetting anything. If you're interested in sending physical promo, send an email and I'll reply with mailing information. Thanks for your cooperation in helping me provide the most current and thorough reviews and content.

Thank you for expressing an interest in me. I'm Ben and I run this blog. I exist digitally on this blog and physically in Brooklyn. When I'm not writing about art and music, I'm either creating my own music (poorly) or working in an office somewhere and hoping to go unnoticed. I used to be a bit more of a glutton for visibility, but these days I wish I'd stayed under a rock and kept writing anonymously. If you know me, you know me. Black Metal & Brews is a blog committed to the enjoyment of craft beers and all varieties of extreme music. This blog is run out of love and respect for the brewers and musicians who are committed to perfecting their craft. Music shared on this blog for download is either already free on the internet from the original artist or record label, or has been posted with direct permission from the parties responsible for creating it.

I will never contact artists or breweries for free music, beer, or other promotional goods, but will always gladly accept a generous gesture. This blog is here to support the community, not to leech from it in the guise of free press. If I don't like the music or the beer, I would rather decline to write a review than to speak ill of somebody who is putting time and effort into their art. If it isn't right for me, it may still be right for somebody else.

If you are looking to have your creative works featured on this blog, the email address is the preferred format. While I prefer having a physical copy in hand so that I can include descriptions of the packaging, I realize that many albums in my genres of choice are created in limited runs. I will not be offended if you elect to send me a .rar or .zip file of an album that you want me to review. Additionally, please be patient. This blog is run by a single person with a full-time professional job. This means that this blog is a hobby and functions outside of the realm of press cycles and public discourse. As of June 2018, Black Metal & Brews no longer uses social media for promotion. Check in regularly if you wish to find coverage.
